Hello Everybody & Welcome to the Art of Jaasiel Blog.
My name is Jaasiel Barrientos and I am a self-taught Artist. By self-taught I mean I didn’t attend to a university to get a degree in art. To me self-taught means to learn valuable skills, to study and gather knowledge through research, looking for mentors and think how to dissolve obstacles.
I have learned about value, color theory & composition through books, videos and workshops. But what I really learned while studying those topics was Patience, Passion & Decision.
But one of the most important lesson I’ve learned is: Patience.
I have discovered that many lessons and techniques I apply when I’m painting, I can apply it to every aspect of my life. For example, If I want to make a painting, I need to decide to start a painting, then I need, not only passion but certain level of technique & skills to overcome the difficulties, but I need patience to put it all together and create art, not just a painting.
So in every aspect of your life you need to make a decision to do something, then you need, not only passion but skills & knowledge that you acquire by studying & research to overcome obstacles but you need patience to hold it together so it can be meaningful and valuable.
I believe art is fuelled by Passion, but It is also a matter of Decision.
We usually take on goals for ourselves according to our skills & knowledge; but we should take on goals that will makes us learn new skills & knowledge. I did not decide to become an artist because I already knew how to draw, paint or be creative, I decided to become an artist to learn these wonderful skills. Then I soon found out it wasn’t easy but I kept going; That’s where Passion comes in, but because I kept going I acquired more knowledge, then I discovered I could use that knowledge to many aspects of my life.
This is what I’d like to share with you: Be Self-taught! Learn to be Patient, Passionate & Decisive. It doesn’t have to be about art, but it could be about music, another language or whatever you want! Teach yourself how improve your self. That’s what I do!!
